I feel like I've been internet friends with Deuxmoi since they first started out 2.5 years ago, so it's a pretty exciting time for me to be posting this interview with them today. I admire their sense of humor, badassery, and all around go-getter-ness. Also, it's pretty chill that they've chosen to remain anonymous so their creative content and collaborations can take center stage (instead of their outfits and latte art). They've recently launched a super fun collection of clutches in collaboration with Emily Cho, and have a bunch more exciting stuff in the works. Make sure to follow them on instagram for lots of LOLs and fashion inspos.
Read on to see what inspires them to keep trucking on their passion project while climbing the ladder at their full time jobs. These girls are the tits.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Music, memories of poignant times in our lives and most good ideas can be found at the bottom of a wine bottle over sushi.
What’s your special sauce? That little trick you do before walking out the door to perk you up and make you feel your most you?
We are really into scents. We are actually doing a collab with Smell Bent-this dope perfumery out of LA…so spraying on our own little concoction is a must before leaving the apt.
Who are your mentors? Who do you look up to?
Any gal who is smart, hard working and believes in herself. If you follow us on social media you’d know we are huge Ashley & Mary Kate Olsen fans. Those two grew up on some cheesy sitcom and now they are the most (in our opinion) stylish and influential crew in the fashion game. They believed in their own personal style, even when it was being mocked, and have now built this huge fashion empire…that’s a cool story.
What makes you happy no matter what? Like if you’re having one of those no good rotten days where everything is terrible, what’s the thing that pulls you off the ledge?
Xanax today, tomorrow & forever.
Where do you shop for closet staples?
Shopbop & Zara
Where do you go to find your special thing?
Anything vintage on Ebay or something our grandmothers/mothers have worn back in the day and have passed down to us.
What’s your formula for a killer outfit?
Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in but always be a little sexy…whether it’s showing your décolletage, wearing heels when you really want to be in sneakers or adding a sexy piece of jewelry to your look.
Social Media. Who do you love/stalk?
Social media hacks. What is your go-to trick?
If you can get someone with a lot of followers to give you a shout-out, do it
What’s something you struggle with in your career?
Competing with men
Tell us about a time when you hit a breaking point, a fork in the road? Have you ever wanted to quit and run away to Bali?
NYC is hard city to live & work in. We want to get the fuck out all the time but if you want to work in fashion (we both work in fashion full time) this is the best place to be in the U.S. So basically we are imprisoned here.
What is something you’d say you are always fighting against? What’s the thing you have to pep-talk yourself about?
Not to get all Dalai Lama on you or whoever, but it’s really not healthy to compare yourself to anyone. The fate of your life is in your own hands. If you believe in yourself and just keep moving forward eventually you will end up somewhere. It might not be exactly where you want to be but if you're hard working and a good person it will some how also be rewarding.
What are you most proud of thus far in your life? Can be career or non-career related.
We are proud that we have stuck with deuxmoi for the past 2 ½ years while we have full time jobs. It’s not always easy to keep up with other influencers who grew at a much more rapid pace but we haven’t and will not give up.
What is the one thing you throw on when you head out the door that gives you that warm glow from deep in the tummy that says, “I know I look good”?
That extra coat of mascara…if our lashes are looking on point we know it’s going to be a good night
